3 Months Breaks. Good or Bad Idea?

The Simplest Answer

Allowing your scalp to rest a bit longer, waiting beyond 6 weeks is best for sustainable growth and maximum locs density. This is what my 13 years of working with Sisterlocks taught me. My clients locs thrive thanks to the longer 3 months+ scalp rest and re-locking session.

Evidence

These locs prove the above myth is not true.

Why 3 Months Re-locking Sessions

3 logical reasons for 3 monthly

Re -locking sessions.

1.

If any follicle has been pulled too tightly, 3 months allows for a scalp rest and follicle roots recovery.

2.

Resting scalp gives scalp space for follicle regeneration and strand strengthening. Strands that need to get thicker and stronger have time to transform, with minimal interference.

3.

Three months gives you time to understand the cyclical behaviour of your scalp and strands and ultimately your locks. Enabling you to care for your locks in the right way.

The Reluctant Loctician

Many times you have a feeling the frequency of interlocking, the pulling and tugging with no regard for your follicles is creating a problem for your Sisterlocks or Microlocs.

LaTanya was 5 years into her Sisterlocks when she became aware of the increased pain to her scalp, mostly during and 2 days after her retight sessions when the thrumbing pain subsided and for the rest of the week Latanya's scalp only hurt to touch, when she pressed down on her scalp area. Solution for her, DO NOT TOUCH. So she avoided touching her scalp Only wetting her Sisterlocks on retight days when washing.

She became more worried, anxious about her Sisterlocks, she loved them and wanted them to feel and look like they used to, fuller more stronger. Now she wondered, would she lose them? They felt too different from 3 years ago.

Trying to speak with her Sisterlocks Consultant about her observation was a tard frustrating because she would listen but the pain would not stop, instead now it was hurting more than previous times than when she had silently suffered her retightening pain because she thought it was normal, that was about 2 years ago. Back then it was a feeling of tenderness in the center of her head, a heightened sensitivity.

It was when she realised her edges were looking thinner she suggested to her Consultant to stretch out her appointments. LaTanya had began researching why her Sisterlocks were thinning. She started off with a full head of Locs 437 to be precise. She hadn't counted them recently, she was afraid to because she was discouraged by how thin they now felt, like they would just snap off at anytime. The most times they were touched was retight day and by her consultant.

LaTanya's Sisterlocks Consultant was friendly and though she expressed no concern about thinning edges and more the crown area, she wanted LaTanya to feel happier about her Sisterlocks and so though, she was Certified train to retighten every 6 weeks, she agreed to stretching out Latanya's retightening dates.

Now at 10 weeks LaTanya is feeling better about her Sisterlocks. Her favourite time is just before she is due to sit in the chair for her 10 weeks retightening sessions because her locks feel so much more Fuller! Bushier! Even better Retights pains are now every 10 weeks.

LaTanya is now 6 years into her having Sisterlocks. She has recently began to realise her pain is becoming intense. Yes, retightenings are now 10 weeks but the pain is getting much more intense and there is still thinning along her edges.

One day, it dawns on Latanya, whilst styling her Sisterlocks, which she increasingly is taking longer to style. MORTIFIED she realises she is still THINNING!

LaTanya's Sisterlocks Thinning is much more subtle and gradual and because she waits for 10 weeks to retightening her hair and her hair looks fluffy and messier, so much more fuller which she loves, she actually doesn't realise her LOCS ARE THINNING.

LaTanya only realises her locks are thinning after each retightening session. Headache in the first week, exposed scalp, thinning with holes in her Sisterlocks.

LaTanya is scared because her Consultant is aware of the changes and isn't coming up with a solution. LaTanya suggests 12 weeks retightenings and her Consultant who has been the only person who started and now retights her Sisterlocks, tells Latanya, "It might be better for you to find another Consultant."

LaTanya's Consultant explains that it's taking her much longer time to complete her retights in comparison to when she was 6 weeks now it's 10 weeks it's taking longer. Also she's going to have to charge her a lot more for 12 weeks.

It is out of the question 12 weeks retightenings! This is the impression given to LaTanya during her last retight session with her Consultant.

LaTanya feels confused she's feeling anxious once again she's feeling like she's going to lose her Sisterlocks, lost and desperate. She begins to pray as she types in Google, 'What can I do to save my thinning Sisterlocks.'

LaTanya begins to discover people are cutting off their Sisterlocks. She's actually discovering how seriously balding is affecting people who are wearing Sisterlocks.

During LaTanya's desperate 'HELP! My Sisterlocks are THINNING and I don't know what to do searches, LaTanya discovers Knotted Locs. She first discovers Knotted Locs You Tube Channel. She reads Google Review and settles here in Melissa Blake's Knotted Locs World, where all you need to know decide if Knotted Locs is what you need to save your Sisterlocks or Microlocs.

LaTanya messaged Melissa Blake she scrolled to the bottom of our home page filled in her details and the rest is her Locstory.

LaTanya has been practicing Knotted Locs just past 8 months, and already she feels safer and she feels happier and most important, her ex Sisterlocks Head is not in pain anymore. She presses down on her scalp, NO PAIN! Most of all her Locs are fuller and feel stronger. Yes, during LaTanya's wait to transition to Knotted Locs, whilst her hair grew fuller at the base, a couple of locks broke off, but that was nothing in comparison her total of 6 years+ Sisterlocks experience, as a matter of fact she discovered many joined locks, she began to realise as she went through her Locks which Melissa Blake Teaches you how to handle your locs, how to beginning learning about your hair personal to the characteristics of your strands. LaTanya began to discover

how much the excessive tugging and pulling caused damage to her scalp which looks like she will take an extremely long time to heal from. LaTanya realised, if her Consultant had not told her to find someone else to retighten her Sisterlocks, she would have eventually had to cut off her Sisterlocks or GO BALD!

This is what LaTanya came to realise, her Consultant was used to 6 weeks retightenings, tiny bit of growth to interlock. LaTanya's hair was slow growing which meant too much force happened during her 6 weeks interlocking sessions, her retightenings were completed extremely tight to expose a grid which initially LaTanya loved and because she expressed her love for the grid and how neat her Sisterlocks were, her Consultant created and continued to create what was in line with LaTanya's love for her Sisterlocks and Sisterlocks' neat Grid Lines teaching practices.

There was a point LaTanya changed, she began to want a different experience and her Consultant accommodated her client's vision 10 weeks retightenings.

For LaTanya, her Consultant because she practices tight retightenings had to intensify her interlocking method to manage her 10 weeks growth, which for the Sisterlocks trained Consultant is too much growth and all of it needs to be put away and therefore the tugging and pulling was intense, unnecessarily and excessively tugged and pulled because LaTanya was now 10 weeks. Her Sisterlocks Consultant would make up for the lack of retightenings as she wanted her in the chair every 6 weeks and because her Consultant felt she couldn't say anything at the time to Latanya because finally she looked happy and they were friends she allowed 10 weeks BUT

made up her 6 weeks absence.

For LaTanya's requested 10 weeks retightening cycle session, her Sisterlocks Consultant tugged and pulled her hair a lot more that she realised. Retightenings were even tighter to ensure that her locks stayed locked.

Knotted Locs that is not an issue her Locs does not have to be neat and she can relock her hair as and when she chooses.

This is one of the main reasons why Sisterlocks clients and Microlocs clients are now LEARN KNOTTED LOCS.

Sisterlocks, Microlocs Wearers are now feeling a lot more in control of their hair. They understand their hair a lot more better as a result of practicing Knotted Locs.
